Room view: Abstract calligraphy painting ‘Royal’ by Angie Durbin, featuring densely layered black brush marks and intertwined vibrant colors , displayed as a framed print on a built-in bookshelf in a modern living room with gray walls.

Royal

By Angie Durbin

Using a brand new 3” flat brush and several of my smaller brushes, I had fun with creating different sized layers of black ink marks and then finding spots of white to add color to.

The name reflects a subtle, accidental character in the upper right area that reminds me of a king illustration from a deck of playing cards. The added layers of transparent white marks and accents created an abstract visual language that makes the central king figure feel as though he is singing.

The title was also a natural choice since I had been listening to “Kings & Queens” by Audio Adrenaline that same week.

This artwork was part of a large salon art show exhibition at the TNC GALLERY in Manhattan.
